Some Comments From Our Visitor Book
“We had a really great week, found the cottage just perfect and so cosy. County Durham and Northumberland countryside is quite stunning. We visited lots of places from Bamburgh to Darlington and Barnard Castle and found this to be a perfect base. Thank you Stuart and Alison for the welcome pack.
We hope to come back again one day.”

“A beautiful little cottage with many quirky features. We didn’t attempt to use the butterchurn! The food at the Black Bull is lovely. We had a great time exploring the area – the drives between the Dales was breathtaking. We enjoyedour stay but a week is not long enough to do the area justice. Many Thanks”

“What a fabulous cottage – everything absolutely perfect. I love all the little extra touches, flowers in the kitchen, chocolates in the living room and on the bed. The bathroom goodies, the welcome hamper and boring but essential fairy and washing powder. I have felt completely spoilt and very (being here on my own for the first time a real bonus). I spent many happy hours touring round beautiful scenery and had many pleasant walks. One I particularly enjoyed was in Bishop Auckland Deer Park and I also thoroughly enjoyed an afternoon at Crook Hall and Gardens in the centre of Durham absolutely fabulous. Many thanks Stuart and Alison.”

“What started with a business card in Frosterley chippy, (who incidentally, have the best chips ever!) has lead to a wonderful, relaxing week in beautiful weardale away from the stresses of work, kids, dogs and horses. The cottage is everything it appears on the website and more. This place has a very happy vibe and has provided some much needed peace and escape.
Although there is stacks to see and do I would recommend just curling up and taking time to absorb the character of the place. We loved it thanks again”

“We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your wonderful cottage. This is a brilliant base for exploring from and looking forward to coming back to see more. The whole trip was further enhanced by the unseasonably warm weather for August J Until next time P.S Lily says thanks for the biscuits. “

“We have had a wonderful week here in your lovely cottage. Us kiwis are delighted to have won 3 gold medals, so far and are on 10th on the table – ahead of the Aussies! Not bad for a little country.
We have loved driving over the moors – watching the heather begin to bloom and spotting grouse. We had trips to Durham and Lindisfarne but mostly drove around the B roads and lanes looking for history. We also ate twice in the Black Bull.
A most memorable week made all the more enjoyable because we had this comfortably nest to come home to”.

“Enjoyed our stay here, everything you need was available. Thank you for our welcome pack and lovely chocolates, was most thoughtful of you. Visited lots of places, the drive across the moors to Blanchland was spectacular, as was the village just a shame the pub was closed for refurbishment.”

“The cottage more than lives up to its 4 star rating. We have enjoyed our week in this country haven. The Black Bull fayre is second to none. Many lovely walks and nearby villages to explore.”

“Lovely cottage and pleasant location in the weardale Valley. Had many good walks all week including Tunstall Reservoir, Weardale Way to Wolsingham and Stanhope, Durham and a long forest walk. Weather alright, only rained when we were in Durham. Enjoyed the ales and food at the lack Bull in the village Very enjoyable stay. Thanks. “

“We found the mineral walk around Frosterley an interesting insight into the past. Raby Castle one of the best we have seen and Bowes Museum is wonderful. The Black Bull food seems to be the best around – shame about the opening hours!!!
The cottage was wonderful and the county of Durham has been an absolute joy. Thank you Stuart and Alison – we’ve had a wonderful week.”

“As previous visitors have commented the welcome from Alison and Stuart is first class. Very nice couple, made us feel very welcome. Innkeepers Cottage is unique. Surprisingly comfortable for 2 people, the fixtures and fittings are really in keeping with the tradition of the cottage, and yet obviously quite new. A lot of care and attention has gone into this place by A & S.
We were only he re for four nights. Wonderful area, lots to see and do. Very disappointed The Black Bull is closed Sundays night, Mon and Tues as that was the bulk of the stay. For those lovers of real ale, avoid the Frosterley Inn!!! But The Black Bull was superb.
The bird nesting outside the dining area window is still there. I think it’s a thrush. First sign of hatching was Sunday morning, since then the mum has been very active with the feeding. Not sure how many in the nest, but wonderful to watch.
We have really enjoyed our stay here although I will be looking forward to standing upright in the bathroom. Very many thanks to Alison and Stuart.”
